Organizational challenges for the coming year continue to be economic conditions, increased competition, execution of brand marketing and the ability to quickly execute strategies by making informed decisions. Successful business performance depends on the conquest of these challenges. Business intelligence software is not enough to guarantee that employees will be able to meet the growing needs of the business to overcome these demanding challenges; organizational structure must enhance the opportunities for analysis.

To establish a foundation that will encourage successful results, it is essential to develop a deeper and more effective strategy for analysts and the analysis performed. This is accomplished through a formal program to complement the current BI initiative. How might this program look?

The term Business Intelligence (BI) first entered the corporate dictionary in the late 1980’s. Since then, technology has drastically changed, however, some forms of traditional BI technology still seem to lag behind. Betterbi.com, a reputable BI blog site, stated that, “Traditional BI has failed to deliver value commensurate with the time, energy, effort, money, and resources organizations have expended in its pursuit.”

What is it about Amazon that makes it such a compelling way to shop?  Jeff Bezos set out to create a place where you could find any book that exists for the best possible price and get it in your hands as fast as possible.  That’s pretty cool, but it’s not the answer.

Bezos understood that to really make the idea compelling, he needed to do things that would drive traditional Wall Street analysts nuts- like always giving the customer the lowest price as the “Buy Now” option, even when that was another (competitive) seller.  That’s pretty awesome, but it’s still not the answer.

What makes Amazon so compelling has everything to do with what they sell, but isn’t produced by Amazon.  What makes Amazon so compelling is all the information produced around the buying experience that Amazon allows me to use to make better decisions
