El Paso Independent School District Reduces IT Burden with Logi Info
El Paso Independent School District has used the Logi Info Bi Platform to reduce IT burden, due to it's flexibility and ease of use.
Located in El Paso, Texas, the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) is the largest district in the Texas Education Agency’s Education Service Center – Region 19. With more than 64,000 students in 94 campuses, EPISD also is the tenth largest district in Texas and the 61st largest district in the United States. It is also El Paso’s largest employer with nearly 9,000 employees and has an annual operating budget of $461 million.
“In order to remove some of the reporting load from our operational ERP system, we developed a data warehouse. We then sought to implement new capabilities for reporting from the data warehouse. This presented an opportunity to improve upon the reporting capabilities we previously had directly from the ERP system. While the system provided a variety of reports, we did not have any type of dashboards or graphical data visualizations.”
“We needed to make reporting more flexible so users could access information in the detail they require rather than coming to the IT team all the time. Specifically, we wanted users to be able to drill down to access details of the underlying data, as well as customize dashboards with features such as selecting their own panels or data parameters,” stated Don Berry, Systems Analyst, EPISD.
We were able to develop reports quickly with Logi Info. Reporting is now more flexible so users can view data at the level that best suits their needs, reducing burden on the IT team.
“We began searching for dashboard and reporting solutions and evaluated numerous products.
There were quite a few things we liked about Pentaho, but the structure was restrictive. You had to do programming in it if you wanted to open it up. Other tools were prohibitively expensive, but Logi Analytics provided the best of both worlds. Logi Info had the capabilities and flexibility we were looking for and was also simple enough that you’re basically running a website,” stated Mr. Berry.
“Once we understood the structure of how Logi Info works and had the data structured correctly in the back end, we were able to develop a lot of our reports rather quickly,” explained Mr. Berry.
In a short period of time with only two developers working with Logi Info part-time, EPISD built two main dashboards which display a variety of information pertaining to district and campus information including enrollment, student attendance, and discipline. Additional information includes special programs and inventory of job positions that contains both present and future job vacancies, as well as a directory of active employees. This information has also been implemented in standalone reports for the users to access.”
The dashboards provide the drill-down functionality users had been requesting. When browsing reports, users are able to easily access the underlying data with a single click. Additionally, various options will be made available in the future for users to customize dashboards to their own needs.
“Currently campus and district administrators have access to the dashboards. We will soon be rolling them out to our more than 4,500 teachers. We continue to add further enhancements as we move forward, and will soon add some discipline drill down and student demographic reports.”
“Logi Info is a great piece of software. I actually haven’t found anything that I don’t like,” concluded Mr. Berry.
